Short Liquidation in Live Cattle

MORNING LIVESTOCK FUTURES OUTLOOK

LIVE CATTLE

Live Cattle futures trade volume was light again on Thursday.  With August going off the board on Friday, there was short liquidation.  The 5 day negotiated price as of august 29th was $184.25 and August live cattle closed the day on Thursday at $184.87.    For October and December live cattle it was mostly spread trading, buying hogs and selling cattle.  Trade volume into 2025 was extremely light.

LEAN HOGS

Lean hog trading is mostly  spread trading.  October lean hogs are the long leg of hog spreads and long legs of hog/cattle spreads.  Last week the CME Lean Hog Index was down $1.37 and the CME Pork Index was down $2.93.
